How to Carve a Chicken

Here's a step-by-step guide on how to perfectly carve a cooked chicken.

Carving a chicken has a reputation of being a challenging task, reserved for only the most skilled at the dinner table. But really, it couldn’t be easier. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to perfectly carve a cooked chicken and impress your dinner guests while you’re at it.

Before you begin, you will need:

  • A sharp knife
  • A cutting board
  • One cooked chicken

Be sure to let the cooked chicken rest at room temperature for at least 10 minutes before carving. This allows the juices to redistribute and be reabsorbed by the meat, resulting in a perfectly moist chicken.

Step 1:

Place the cooked chicken squarely on the cutting board. Using a sharp knife, separate the legs by cutting at the hip joints.
