The holiday season is right around the corner! A time for many families to take a well deserved break and spend time together being grateful for the simple joys in life. And for many people that means enjoying a lot of delicious indulgences from cookies to cake. Yet there’s always the possibility of bringing in some healthy food along with the holiday cheer…and that’s where chicken can come in!
Holiday Chicken Appetizers
Your main holiday meal may be heavy, so think about making appetizers that are tasty and won’t completely ruin your appetite!
Chicken is a great ingredient for holiday appetizers because it’s low fat and high in protein…Plus, it has a mild flavour so you can get creative using different spices and herbs.
Chicken Meatballs are perfect appetizers because they’re bite sized, so you can make enough for your guests but not so many that they aren’t hungry for the main course.
This Chicken and Brie crostini is a unique spin on a classic. Adding a little bit of cranberry preserve really makes it a festive appetizer.
Holiday Fun with the Family!
There are SO many fun family activities to do over the holiday season. These include:
- Outdoor hiking or snowshoeing
- Making a snowman or building a snow fort!
- Going on a winter walk and seeing all the lights and decorations
- Making & decorating holiday cookies
- Skating at a local ice rink
- Playing board games
- Watching holiday movies
- Singing Christmas songs/having a holiday dance party!
- COOKING OF COURSE!
Get the Family involved in Cooking!
A lot of joy can be found in the kitchen over the holidays. Cooking with family and friends can create a bonding community experience. Plus, everyone will feel happy to have contributed to a wonderful holiday meal!
Perhaps have a holiday cooking night where you and your family create a recipe on your own inspired by a holiday flavour.
Some examples of holiday flavours where you can draw inspiration from are:
This Cranberry and Chevre Stuffed Chicken Breast can be a starting point to your creativity! Why not try making stuffing out of ginger bread? Have fun with it!
